Why put your Property in a Trust?

Many people who seek out estate planning attorneys do so to reduce their estate taxes and to avoid having to put their property through the probate process. The most commonly used method to avoid the probate process is to place your property in an inter vivos trust, also known as a "living trust." Upon your death, the property will not revert to your probate estate and in will instead be held by a trustee and administered and distributed according to the terms of the trust instrument.
An inter vivos trust differs from a testamentary trust which is created by the terms of a will and places some assets from the decedent's  estate in a trust to exist from the date of death and until fully distributed.  In order to determine what type of trust is appropriate for your estate planning goals you should consult with an experienced Los Angeles estate planning attorney.
