Conservatorship to Continue for Spears

On June 3, 2010 there was a status hearing for the Britney Spears Conservatorship case, where the Los Angeles Superior Court Commissioner Reva Goetz  ruled to keep the conservatorship in tact, sealed Spear's medical and financial records and approved her father, Jamie Spear's $235,570 in attorney fees and conservator Andrew Wallet's $124,714 for attorneys fees. The next hearing is scheduled for July 27, 2010, but the conservatorship is expected to continue.

Such status hearings are mandated in conservatorship cases to monitor the conservatorship and ensure the conservators are acting with care and diligence in the management of the conservatee's affairs (California Probate Code § 2401).  The court will also regularly approve requested fees such as the case with Spears. At least 90 days after being appointed, the conservator may petition the court for payment of services and the Court generally will order payment of reasonable compensation (California Probate Code §2640).
