Funding The Trust

Once you've got your Living Trust set-up, hopefully using a knowledgeable Estate Planning Attorney, you are going to start funding that trust. Funding is when you transfer assets such as, real property, bank accounts, 401K accounts, or life insurance policies into the name of the trust.

Some of the most common ways of funding include changing titles on real property and changing the beneficiaries on your various accounts and life insurance policies. The funding process must be done correctly and completely, otherwise unfunded assets may become subject to probate. It is not necessarily difficult to fund your trust and you should make sure to start doing so as soon as possible.
