Preventing Will Contests

I'm sure many of you have seen Hollywood movies, and some commercials for that matter, where everyone is gathered around to hear the reading of the Last Will and Testament of a deceased billionaire. And by everyone, I mean everyone, from the maid to the mistress! Then when one party receives more than the other, foul is cried, and the validity of the will is challenged. But, that scenario isn't really as far fetched as you might think. Especially, when it comes to large amounts of money and other valuable estate assets.

While in reality, will contests are probably very rare, especially if you've got a proper will drafted up by a legal professional. However, there may be some reservations on your part as to how much and what you want to leave to your loved ones. No matter how much you love them, the truth can be that they may have some problems with addiction or may have been involved with other illegal activities. If you are afraid that one of these people may contest your will upon your death, you may be able to include a no contest clause into your will. This could prevent any attempt to contest your will by disinheriting any beneficiary who even tries.

If concerns about someone challenging your will is something you want to deal with in your estate planning, consult with a professional Los Angeles Estate Planning Attorney to discuss the possibility of including a no contest clause as part of your will.
